Pineal Gland
The pineal gland is a small cone-shapedgland that is located in the roof of the third ventricle of the brain. It secretes melatonin, which is responsible for regulating sleep cycles and mood. The pineal gland is also responsible for postponement of puberty. This is because it has an antigonadotropic effect which delays or inhibits the release of gonadotropic hormones, thereby preventing sexual maturation of the child's body until puberty. Due to these properties the menstrual cycle is affected as well.
